Thingyan Festival ( Water Festival) - 13 April to 16 April 2017
For your information, the “Thingyan Festival”, is one of the most famous festivals in Myanmar, the Ananda temple holds its Thingyan festival, start on 13 April to 16 April 2017.
Thingyan (which means "transit [of the Sun from Pisces to Aries]") is the Burmese New Year Festival and usually falls around mid-April. It is a Buddhist festival celebrated over a period of four to five days, culminating in the New Year. The dates of the Thingyan Festival are calculated according to the Burmese calendar. The dates of the festival are observed as public holidays throughout Myanmar, and are part of the summer holidays at the end of the school year. Water-throwing or dousing one another from any shape or form of vessel or device that delivers water is the distinguishing feature of this festival and may be done on the first four days of the festival.
Ananda Pagoda Festival (9th January to 26th January 2017)
For your information, the “Ananda Annual Festival”, is one of the most famous pagoda festivals in Bagan, the Ananda temple holds its annual pagoda festival, start on 9th January to 26th January 2017.
The Ananda temple is just a few minutes’ walk from our hotel and definitely worth a visit.
The villagers from around Bagan come to the festival in traditional bullock carts and made camps for the whole duration of the festival.
Entertainment includes musical amusement, dancing, singing, theatre and stand-up comedy.
There will be a sea of local vendors/shops selling everything from traditional food to agricultural tools and souvenirs.
If you wish to participate the important ceremony during your stay on the Full Moon Day of Pyatho 12th January 2017, at around 5.30am at the Ananda Temple.

“As the dawn breaks the pilgrims are up and ready with their donations. More than 1000 monks make their way between many thousands of donors lined up on both sides and all reverently offer their donations in the monk’s hands”.
“With their crops having recently been harvested, farmers have the time and the money to enjoy themselves”.
